So on the bus Saturday morning on the way to work, I noticed that a road was blocked off by police. I was like, something must’ve happened and now I’m going to be late my first week of work, even though I only live like 10 minutes up the road. But then I remembered that the St. Matthews Street Festival was today. It’s a Festival. In St. Matthews. St. Matthews is a neighborhood in Louisville. It’s not the neighborhood I live in, but it’s super close.
I told my boyfriend that we should go and do something out of the house.
“Oh, why?” He said. That’s pretty much what he always says.
“Because we haven’t done anything in like a month,” I said. That’s pretty much what I always say.
So we went to the St. Matthews Street Festival.
When we got there, we couldn’t find parking. There was a Starbucks. My boyfriend parked in the Starbucks parking lot.
“They’re going to tow your car,” I said. He has the worst luck with his car getting towed. It got towed the first week we loved into the new apartment because he didn’t have his new tags out on his car yet. And then almost once when we went to dinner with a friend a month or so ago in St. Matthews.
“Not if we go in and buy a drink,” my boyfriend said.
“But what if my new boss catches me drinking Starbucks?” I said. I just started working for a local coffee shop so I could recharge after college for a bit.
“Why would he be in a Starbucks?” My boyfriend said. And I thought that was a good point, so we went and got drinks at Starbucks. I wanted a S’mores Frappuccino.
“We don’t have that one anymore,” the barista said. I pointed to the sign above her. “Even though it says we have it,” the barista said. So I got a Caramel Frappuccino instead.
My boyfriend got a tea or something. And then we went back outside, went in between the tents, and into the street.
There was a band playing acoustic rock. There were greasy tacos, desserts, and a whole bunch of local companies selling expensive equipment in the booths. Kids were gathered around the side of the event opposite the alcohol, hanging out with some guys from a dojo.
There wasn’t a lot of actual typical festival stuff. I wanted to stop and look at some necklaces and some Louisville themed coaster sets, but my boyfriend just walked really fast the whole time without stopping to look at anything. We went in a circle and then we were done. We walked back to his car. It wasn’t towed.
Hey, at least I got out of the house.
When I got home, I wondered what the name of the bad was. There’s an online schedule somewhere that I tried to find, but gave up because I wanted to play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Next local event I go to, I’m buying a Louisville coaster if they have them somewhere. And I’ll probably just go by myself. I mean, what’s the point of going somewhere if you don’t look at anything? I mean, besides getting out of the house.
Have you been to any local festivals or events in your neighborhood? Did you stay longer than 15 minutes? Did you get the name of the local band? All very important things. Tell me all the info in a comment down below.
